Medicare Levy Increase From 1 July 2014
The Government is increasing the Medicare levy by half a percentage point.
From 1 July 2014, the Medicare levy will increase from 1.5 to 2 per cent. The money raised from the increase in the Medicare levy will help fund the additional costs of delivering National Disability Insurance Scheme.
This increase has consequential changes for a number of Acts that reference the Medicare levy rate.
Legislation was tabled in Parliament on 15 May 2013 and received Royal Assent 28 May 2013.
